MOTHER OF MINE

About the Play

This short play centres around the domineering mother of a middle-aged son as they live together in a cramped terraced house in mid-70s Leeds. With failing health and encouraged by a gossiping neighbour, her acid-tongued put-downs and racist and homophobic slurs do little to endear her to the down-trodden son, Jack. Set during the dark days of blackouts in the miners' strikes of that era, tensions reach boiling point, which doesn’t end well for Mother. Jack has ulterior motives, but his scheming is thwarted when he invites his ‘friend’ round for drinks.
