Foundling

        Foundling is fundamentally a story about a mother's love, focusing on her iron-clad resilience despite losing her innate divine right to love, cherish, and nurture her babies. It also highlights how the absence of such love can impact those children left motherless from an early age—those denied the close bond of a mother and the emotional needs most of us take for granted. Walter is one such individual.

        Despite the common view that women are physically weaker, Foundling highlights their stronger mental resilience within the working-class setting—a vital quality in post-war Britain to sustain family units. Women provided for, clothed, and protected their children, often enduring severe hardships, motivated by maternal love and frequently lacking financial or emotional support from a paternal figure.  

 

        Christmas 1973. Northern England. A Leeds council estate of back-to-back terraced housing. The freezing fog is thick, holding the empty, silent streets to ransom. Walter, a troubled, drunken loser, stumbles home in the early hours to find a mysterious newspaper-wrapped package on his doorstep. His skewed rationale leads to a bizarre discovery. The incident plunges an already chaotic life into deeper mental turmoil as supernatural spirits and freakish otherworldly beings begin to infiltrate his fractured psyche and haunt him to the edge of despair. As he battles his inner demons, he struggles to accept that his lonely, pitiful life is spiralling out of control. When a feisty, bedraggled young girl turns up at his front door seeking answers, he’s forced into a desperate, uneasy alliance that leads to darker, weirder paranormal consequences. A murky, uncertain precipice looms.
